30 Sentence Story...(AKA I got taggedzors!)

Well everyone, it's meme time again! I've been tagged by the lovely Simon to do this meme, started by The Kid in the Front Row! So I have to continue this little story by writing a sentence of my own, and tag someone else to write the next sentence in the series. I tag...Andrew. Good luck. Haha!

1. Jane never expected to visit Belarus, but it was the only possibly solution after what had happened.

2. Her lonely planet guide had advised her that it was a great place for birdwatching- so she packed her binoculars- Todd would have been proud, had he not been lying in a coma.

3. Poor Todd; Jane remembered the incident so well: he had spotted a rare long-whiskered owlet, had ran out into the street to snap a photo, and had thusly been hit by an ice cream truck.

4. Except the ice cream truck was actually a roasted salmon!

5. Upon seeing this strange occurance, a Portuguese fisherman who happened to be standing on the other side of the street (and who was also, coincidentally, the resident expert on salmon) ran to scene and called 911, prompting Todd's speedy - albeit smelly - rescue.

30. The three of them left as quickly as they could and vowed never to return again, especially if Jane was in town.

TV Meme Day 27: Best Pilot Episode

I think the perfect pilot episode came in the recent first episode of "Modern Family". We get a great individualized portrait of each individual family (and Sofia Vergara shows us all how amazing she is going to be). It lets you see how great and well-developed every character is going to be, and gives us a bit of an intro to the wonderful mockumentary format that is going to be used. And, it was probably the funniest episode of the entire season.

Finally, we discover that all three of the families are related! Claire and Mitchell are brother and sister, and Jay is their dad? It's awesome. Even though (ironically) the pilot of Modern Family wasn't the first episode of the show I watched, it's probably my favorite of them all so far and it was just the perfect declaration of how wonderful the show would be. Hoorah!

TV Meme Day 26: OMG WTF?!?! Finale

The most OMG WTF moment I can remember was probably predicted by almost everyone except me. It took place during the "Company Picnic" episode of Season 5 of "The Office".

The episode is just hilarious, with Amy Ryan and Steve Carell's rendition of "Slumdunder Mifflinaire" being one of the funniest moments of the season.


But the biggest WTF?! came at the end, when it's implied by Jim (John Krasinski) that Pam (Jenna Fischer) may be pregnant. I say it's a WTF because the episode ends, leaving us hanging! We assume that she's pregnant, but is she? We don't know for sure, and we have to wait for a few months until we can keep going in their lovely romance (which was greatly developed during that season).

Unfortunately, this most recent season of "The Office" has sort of separated itself from me - I just haven't kept up with it well enough, but the "Company Picnic" was such a great finale for a great show. OMG!!!

TV Meme Day 25: A Show I Plan on Watching

There are two shows that have been recommended to me by fellow bloggers:

The first is Parks and Recreation, which I need to watch. I saw one episode once and really liked it - I just can't explain why I never watched any others. Amy Poehler is just so wonderful and I'm itching to see Adam Scott in a few episodes.


The second, is Community, which Simon endlessly recommends to me. :P I really have no idea what the show is about, but it has the awesome actress from Drake and Josh! Haha.

I promise I'll get on to those shows immediately. :)

TV Meme Days 20-23

Alright, so I missed several days. I sincerely apologize! This 30 day meme thing is fun, but it ain't easy. :P

Day 20: Favorite Kiss

It's weird that I'm choosing this as my favorite kiss, because I absolutely hate their relationship and do NOT want them to get together. But for some reason the kiss at the end of the first half of the first season of Glee between Will and Emma was extremely...hm...memorable? It's the first that came to my mind, anyway, and it was successful in making me want to keep watching the show to find out what the HECK would happen. Anyway, I hate their "ship" but this kiss was the one good thing about it. Haha.

Day 21: Favorite 'Ship
I didn't even know what on earth a ship was, until Andrew did his post about it. And now it makes sense, it's short for "relationship". Duh! Haha! Anyhoo, I know of one particular couple I just can't get enough of - which would be Henry and Casey on "Party Down". They're perfect for each other, yet completely imperfect at the same time - and they make one of the best comedy-couple-duos on TV (besides maybe Cam and Mitchell from Modern Family).

Day 22: Favorite Series Finale

Hm. I haven't seen enough series from beginning to end to have a real favorite series finale. I have several favorite season finales, but none that ended their series. And though I could mention the finale of "Party Down" this season due to the fact that it's not quite guaranteed to come back, I don't want to jinx anything. ;)

A few blurbs on great casts, since again, one is not nearly enough. I hope you like my midnight meme posts. This meme never ends, does it!?

Glee - I don't like every member of this cast (namely Matthew Morrison and Cory Monteith, sorry guys) but every week is filled with great work from almost everyone else. Jane Lynch and Jayma Mays are consistently wonderful when they actually get a chance to be on screen, and Lea Michele gets better each week. More thoughts on Glee

Modern Family - There is not a single weak link in this cast. From the youngest to the oldest, each member is hilarious and adds perfectly to the show. It helps that they're given such great material to work with, of course. Standouts are of course Eric Stonestreet, Sofia Vergara, and Rico Rodriguez. More on Modern Family

Party Down - Again, not a weak link. Even when they lost Jane Lynch, Megan Mullaly came to be brilliant and hilarious. Every actor milks their roles and besides being wonderfully funny, they're all so sincere and human too. Mas de Party Down

United States of Tara- Oh, Toni Collette is brilliance as usual, but her supporting cast is not to be outdone. I particularly like Brie Larson, Kier Gilchrist, and Rosemarie Dewitt...oh, and Don Corbett is always great. See, that's the whole cast right there...I love them all so much, in a sick way I wish they were my family. Haha! Read about my love for US Of Tara

Spongebob Squarepants - Seriously, everyone! Really, this show simply has some of the best ensemble voice acting ever. Every voice is so memorable, whether you like the show or not, and they interact with themselves so well and realistically. Oh how I love this show. More on that Sponge that lives under the sea

The Office - Grrrr I love this cast so much, I wish they'd all do more beyond this. Jenna Fischer in particular is just lovely and every character is so perfect. There's no way this could have been cast any better.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - If you haven't seen this show, you should check it out. It's hysterical. Not for everyone, but still amazing. The cast is just so remarkably out of control you wonder how they can take themselves seriously and not break out laughing while they're working. So, so funny and amazing. It's like if a cartoon took crack and became a live action sitcom.

I know it's absolutely not enriching in anyway, but that's why they call it a guilty pleasure! There's just something so liberating about watching a bunch of soon-to-be-wives go crazy before the big day. Some of the things these women do are just out of control! But, that's the joy of it. I don't know how much of it is staged, and I don't care - it just makes me laugh so, so much, and it doesn't matter how they go about making that happen.

TV Meme Day 14: Favorite Male Characters

I couldn't pick just ONE! So, I present to you, 10. I'm cheap like that. This was difficult though! Do realize, this was tricky, since I'm not repeating characters from the same show. Also, I've only been avidly watching television recently so most of these characters will be sort of recent. :) The lovely ladies are coming later since I'm running late, again.

Guess what guys! I won something! Sorta. Haha. Simon, at Four of Them, has lovingly bestowed this little complimentary memelike thing. I have to write 7 facts about myself, then I get to pass this on to another lucky group of peeps. So...here goes!

1. I've been playing piano since I was 4...I can't even remember that far back! But it's my calling, I think.
2. Speaking of piano, my piano teacher is the coolest guy ever. He's so smart and besides being a genius about piano, he's also a film and literature aficionado.
3. Top 5 directors right now: Miyazaki, Lynch, Tarantino, Hitchcock, Anderson
4. I love to cook. Going vegetarian forced me to cook even more which is one of my favorite things about it. I made peanut butter and jelly cookies today! They were delicious! Muahaha.
5. I love Bjork. I'm also obsessed with St. Vincent, The Bird and the Bee, The Noisettes, The National, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others. I recently had a big Ke$ha phase (don't judge!). You can check out my last.fm profile if you really want to know the extent of my musical taste. Haha!

TV Meme Day 13: Favorite Childhood Show

There is a show that, by all means, defined my childhood. Or at least, the part of it that I can vividly remember. I've been told I was in love with "Barney" (apparently I started screaming in delight when I got a Barney doll for my 2nd bday) and "Lamb Chops Play Along" (which Andrew wrote a lovely piece on) amongst many others. But the one show that I watched endlessly as a child, and still quite love, is "Arthur".

"Arthur" is a show about Arthur the aardvark, who lives with his parents and sister. Each episode deals with how the Arthur and his interesting friends and family members all deal with each other and the issues that surround their lives.

Unlike many childrens' shows, "Arthur" treats its audience maturely. No baby talk or gibberish here, folks! And, for a childrens' animated series, each of the characters are surprisingly and refreshingly well developed and multi-dimensional. The show takes serious issues that children have to deal with and make them joyous and palatable.

For example, one of the characters is Buster, a fun-loving rabbit with asthma whose parents are divorced. Not quite what you'd think would make up a kids show, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. And this, I believe, is Arthur's greatest achievment. It's remarkably funny, cute and wonderful, and perfect for little kids. But instead of being immature or shying away from mature topics like most shows, it confronts them head on with a spirit of optimism and joy.

"Arthur" really taught me so much and it's a wonderful show that, believe it or not, is still on the air! (Well, I'm not that old peoples!) If you have kids, are a kid at heart, or just want to watch some good television, "Arthur" is the show for you.



Side Note: The "Arthur's Perfect Christmas" is just the best. I watch it every year to get in the spirit. Just like the show it deals with mature issues seamlessly. It talks about different religious traditions, best friends fighting, single parenthood...ah, if only all shows could deal with issues like Arthur!

TV Meme Days 11 and 12

SORRY! I have to make up for the weekend. I am not going to make this a habit, I promise!

Day 11: A Show That Disappointed

Hmmmm. This one is sort of tricky. Again, when it comes to TV, I don't really anticipate anything and if I don't like something then I stop watching. I'm inclined to say "Infomania", which I mentioned in my Day 1 post - for some reason, it's seemed to really go downhill in more recent days, but it's still quite funny and has its redeeming factors for sure. I'm also tempted to say the most recent season of "The Office", what I've seen is just not up to par with what I originally fell in love with. Neither of those were horribly disappointing but definitely didn't live up to my expectations.

Day 12: An Episode I've Watched More Than 5 Times

Haha, any episode of Spongebob, basically. Or, perhaps the Benihana Christmas episode of "The Office". :P

TV Meme Day 10: A Show that I Liked Even Though I Thought I Wouldn't

So, there's one show that's a great(ish) example of one that I thought I'd hate but then ended up loving. And that show is GLEE.

Now, by now, you guys should know how I feel about Glee. I have a love/hate relationship with it now, sure. But when I first started watching the show on Hulu, after all the hype and the HUGE ads, and the promise of Jane Lynch, I was ridiculously disappointed. I felt the characters were complete stereotypes (the footballer, the theater geek, the gay kid, the black diva, the cheerleader) and I could not stand the auto-tuned voices of the singers.

However, for some odd reason (I attribute it mostly to Jane Lynch, though she's surely not the only reason), I kept going - I kept watching episode after episode. Until, finally, somehow, I fell in love with the show. I couldn't wait until the next week's episode and that season finale just left me hanging on the edge of my sofa.

Even though I rant about Glee a lot, I still quite love it for some inexplicable reason and compared to the hatred I had for it near the beginning, it's really redeemed itself.

Day 8: A Show Everyone Should Watch

I have to give this honor to the always wonderful "Modern Family". One of my favorite new shows this season, Luke has already written a lovely piece on it that reflects my own feelings perfectly. I'll add though, it's perfect for everyone. No matter what your own family is like, or who you are, you will certainly find a character to relate to in this surprisingly sincere hodgepodge of hilarity. The show is always a joy each week, and I surely hope to see some Emmy love for at LEAST Sofia Vergara and Eric Stonestreet.

Day 9: Best Scene Ever

Flight of the Conchords! Such an amazing show.

This is really just too hard you guys. But the above scene basically made me die of laughter. Perhaps not the BEST scene EVER (that honor probably goes to an aforementioned moment in an aforementioned cartoon) but it's still pretty much amazing. See also, anything with Sofia Vergara in "Modern Family".

TV Meme Day 7: Least Favorite Episode of my Favorite Show

There just isn't one. I don't have a least favorite. Sure, not every episode is as amazing as the other, but for reals people, I can't think of one episode that I particularly dislike! Sorry.

TV Meme Day 6: My Favorite Episode of My Favorite Show

There are too many amazing episodes of Spongebob to just pick my one definitive favorite without feeling like I left something out. Thus, I present to you, my TOP 5 episodes of Spongebob, of ALL TIME!

5. Whale of a Birthday

In this episode, Spongebob goes on a shopping spree buying everything Pearl wants for her birthday, while Mr. Krabs decorates the Krusty Krab cheaply for her. It's a hilarious episode, with so many laugh-out-loud moments, such as "It's a...girl?" and Squidward singing the Boys Who Cry song. So funny.

4. F.U.N

This is just a classic. Plankton and Spongebob becoming friends and the actual F.U.N song in the show is, for fans of Spongebob, one of the most important topics in the show's history. :P

3. The Camping Episode

Spongebob and Patrick go camping with Squidward in this notable episode. When I first saw it, I fell in love, especially with the "Campfire Song Song" that they sing. Which I would embed a clip of, but it's impossible to find a good one. So...sorry everyone. :)

2. Krusty Krab Training Video

This is a great episode because of how unique it was. Being presented as the actual Krusty Krab training video, it's just amazing. From the "HOOPLAH" guy to "People Order Our Patties" to the fakeout ending, this episode is probably one of the most memorable of them all.

1. Band Geeks

This episode is easily my favorite of all time. When Squidward tries to put together a band to show off to his arch-nemesis, the rather unintelligent citizens of Bikini Bottom attempt to work together to help him. Every moment of this episode is hysterical, and it's structured so well. The end, in which Spongebob and the others play a rock concert, is just classic.

That was really difficult. On some other day, there could be five completely different choices...I can think of five more that I love right now but I shall refrain. I think the strongest season of Spongebob was its Fourth, though only a couple from that season are on this list, I pretty much love every episode from it.

TV Meme Day 5: A Show I Hate

To be honest you guys, I'm really at a loss with this one. I don't watch enough TV for there to be a definitive show that I absolutely despise.

Now, I know what you're going to say... "But Robert! I thought you hated Glee! You complain about it all the time!" And while it is true that I rant about all the probs I have with Glee, you guys also probably realize that I do enjoy the show, quite a bit, and I watch it every week despite my cantankerousness about it.

Sure, there are shows that I can't stand to watch, but they're mainly Disney Channel Originals, like..."Wizards of Waverly Place" and "Hannah Montana". And I watched one episode of "J.O.N.A.S." or whatever that show with the Jo-bros was called, and it was absolutely despicable.

I also really cannot stand "Ed, Ed, and Eddy" that was (is?) on Cartoon Network...but there's a lot of horrendous shows up there too. Nickelodeon has gone super downhill in the past few years, the only good show on there these days is "Spongebob" though I also find myself laughing at "iCarly". I don't enjoy it, but I laugh. ;)

But even through all of those shows, there's not one that I want to single out and crush (which I could do for any of them, believe me) because...they didn't do anything wrong except be what they are for their target audience. That sounds hypocritically moral but what can I say? Sure, there's shows I dislike, but hate is such a strong word.

Think of me as the kind of person who is able to find enjoyment in even the worst of entertainment...mainly because I laugh at it so hard.

TV Meme Day 4: My Favorite Show Ever!

When thinking of television shows that I'd call my "favorite", there is one that easily takes the cake, and that show is Spongebob Squarepants. Seriously, people! :P

A huge part of the reason that I love Spongebob is because I'm the PERFECT age to have fallen in love with the show. I was an impressionable 7 when the show premiered in 1999 (I actually vividly remember watching the first episode), and as I grow up, the show seems to as well.

I'm not going to describe what Spongebob is about, because you should all already know. :) But, it's just an amazing show. The hilarious cast of characters, like Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, and plankton, led by Mr. Squarepants himself of course, is always irresistibly charming. And, Tom Kenny's voiceover work for Spongebob is probably one of the most influential voice-acting jobs ever.

One of the most impressive accomplishments of Spongebob is that it appeals to such a wide audience. I know that not find it funny, but it's a show that appeals to adults with wry and subtle mature humor, while its colorful jokes and characters appeal to even the youngest of kids. As I said before, it's a show that "grew up with me" - I can really watch any episode and find something new to laugh at every time.

Not to mention the fact that I've often noticed discreet social commentary in episodes of Spongebob. For example, the "Grandma's Kisses" episode is an interesting look at familial-social relationships, and the episode "Jellyfish Hunter" takes an unforgiving look at what is certainly a parallel to factory farming. Whether these messages are intentional or not, they still exist and add an entirely new dimension to the hilarity.

Perhaps Spongebob Squarepants seems like an immature choice for my FAVE SHOW EVER OMG but I absolutely can NOT deny that it is. I've loved it ever since I first saw it ten years ago and I'm sure that I'll continue loving it for years to come.
