The Other Guys (2010)

I thought that I had heard some good things about this movie, so imagine my surprise when it turned out to be utter garbaaaaaage. Really, it was just a huge mess. Not only was the script slightly homophobic and treated its female characters like crap, but it was also horrendously paced and chock-full of unbearably clunky dialogue, and the jokes rarely took off. Even the editing was noticeably poor. On the other hand, considering the atrocity of the script, Wahlberg and Ferrell are able to muster up some laughs and chemistry that kept the movie from being entirely unwatchable. There were also a couple of visually interesting scenes (the paper-flying-around-shoot-out and the shot-by-shot bar scene) that were like small little tiny faux-diamonds in a trash can. Ugh. What a waste of an hour and forty minutes of my evening. Skip this one.

Contest Reminder...

All right you guys. I sort of forgot about this myself, but the Second Eye-Dentification Contes is currently taking place! And though the dead line is sort of gone, only ONE person has entered. That's really sad, considering how EASY it is this time around. And while that one person (wink) would probably love it if nobody else entered, I really can't declare a winner if there was no competition. So please everyone, GO FOR IT! :P

Oh, and can I say that I'm so happy that Scott Pilgrim is FINALLY out. I will be seeing that this weekend.

Hostel (2005)

Um...yeah. So, usually my music festival compadres have better taste but this year everyone was all into "scary movies" so I was forced to watch this pile of garbage. Not only is there zero ounce of compelling plot, but the entire point of the movie is to SHOCK! and SCARE!, and though it's gruesome and bloody and violent and "disturbing", I was not once drawn in to the point where I was affected in any way. In fact, I found the movie more sad than anything. Why do I, or anyone else, want to watch innocent people getting tortured? There's not one single thing about that that's fun in any way. Not even in a group of overzealous music students.

On that note, I will say that I loved the little group of kids that was in the movie. So funny. Also, some of the technical features (art direction, and I liked the muted colors in the camerawork) were quite good, and the score was utilized well. I also sort of liked Jay Hernandez's "performance". But other than that, ugh. A complete waste of time, money and my attention span!

TV Meme Day 5: A Show I Hate

To be honest you guys, I'm really at a loss with this one. I don't watch enough TV for there to be a definitive show that I absolutely despise.

Now, I know what you're going to say... "But Robert! I thought you hated Glee! You complain about it all the time!" And while it is true that I rant about all the probs I have with Glee, you guys also probably realize that I do enjoy the show, quite a bit, and I watch it every week despite my cantankerousness about it.

Sure, there are shows that I can't stand to watch, but they're mainly Disney Channel Originals, like..."Wizards of Waverly Place" and "Hannah Montana". And I watched one episode of "J.O.N.A.S." or whatever that show with the Jo-bros was called, and it was absolutely despicable.

I also really cannot stand "Ed, Ed, and Eddy" that was (is?) on Cartoon Network...but there's a lot of horrendous shows up there too. Nickelodeon has gone super downhill in the past few years, the only good show on there these days is "Spongebob" though I also find myself laughing at "iCarly". I don't enjoy it, but I laugh. ;)

But even through all of those shows, there's not one that I want to single out and crush (which I could do for any of them, believe me) because...they didn't do anything wrong except be what they are for their target audience. That sounds hypocritically moral but what can I say? Sure, there's shows I dislike, but hate is such a strong word.

Think of me as the kind of person who is able to find enjoyment in even the worst of entertainment...mainly because I laugh at it so hard.

Yes, that's right, Glee is back tonight. I hate it (the STORY?! The annoying, autotuned music) but I also love it (Jane Lynch, Jane Lynch, and um...Jane Lynch). I know this is a movie blog, but I couldn't resist mentioning this. Heehee!
