Contest Results!

Well, everyone, the time has come! With an astounding 5 submissions (no sarcasm intended), this edition of the Eye-dentification Banner Contest was the most popular yet. Before I announce the winner, I just want to say thanks to all of you who participated. It's always a lot of fun and I do hope that trying to guess those eyeballs isn't too frustrating.

On that note, though a lot of you had trouble individually, collectively there was only one pair of eyes that nobody identified, and they were these...

Interestingly, more than one of you thought they belonged to Ashley Judd, which actually makes sense.

BUT! 'Twas not the case. They actually belong to the always amazing Toni Collette in the classic "Muriel's Wedding".

"Waaaaaaterlooooooooo..."

Here's a full list of the eyes up there, from left to right:

---Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim VS The World), Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose), Catherine O'Hara (For Your Consideration), Clark Gable (Gone With the Wind), Viola Davis (Doubt)---

---Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey), Audrey Hepburn (Wait Until Dark), Bjork (Dancer in the Dark), Naomi Watts (I Heart Huckabees), Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny)---

---"Paprika", Beyonce (Obsessed), Ellen Burstyn (The Last Picture Show), Judi Dench (Shakespeare in Love)---

---Toni Collette (Muriel's Wedding), Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal), Emile Hirsch (Milk), "Ratatouille", Bae Doona (The Host)---

Anyway! On to the winner. With a whopping 21 points, the winner is none other than...

Amir from the blog Amiresque!

Congratulations Amir! As the winner, you get either a custom song about whatever your heart desires, written by yours truly. Or, a guest post on this very blog! Email me to claim your prize.

To everyone else, thanks again for entering! And keep your eyes open, because soon the banner will be changing to a 2010 tribute version as I begin the first ever "Golden Cornea Awards". Hehe, see what I did there, with the name? Haha.

Last chance to enter the contest!

That's right everyone, it's your last chance to enter the banner contest! As in, the deadline is tomorrow, as in, Wednesday January 19th, so if you don't submit your guesses to my email by midnight tomorrow evening then it cannot be counted.

And if you don't enter, you might not win! And that would be a sad day. Especially if you possibly know some of the answers.

So remember - email me (marioman60@gmail.com) the movie and actor that you think appears in the banner above before tomorrow, and you might win a customized song!!! Or a guest post. Whatever floats your boat. :P

So get guessing!

Original details here.

Super important reminder...

...that the submission deadline for the third Banner Eye-dentification Contest coming up! Due to my own schedule, I've extended the deadline to next Wednesday, January 19th. So submit SOON so you can possibly get a song written for you! That is, considering I get any entries. That's right, nobody has gotten the courage to enter yet. Yeah, I'm looking at you. You know who you are. Why haven't you submitted yours yet? I'm disappointed in you.

I'm not singling anyone out, I just put that there to intimidate all of you. Take note. Hehe! Anyway, good luck everyone, and send in those submissions ASAP!

New Year Banner Contest!

Well, it's that time again...for a eye-dentification Banner contest! I've had this current banner for far too long and it's almost time to switch it out, so you know what that means....you guys get to try to identify whose eyes are present!

AND, this time around, the prize is extra-special! Or anyway, it's kind of cool. If you win, I'll WRITE YOU A SONG! And record it, and give it to you in mp3 format! Yeah! I'll write it about whatever you want. If you want me to write a song based on your favorite movie, sure, or maybe a love song to you, or even if you want me to write you a song about like, flying ponies taking over Mars then that's cool too. It's allllll up to you.

Or, if you don't want a special song, then you can take the prize that I normally give out - a guest post on this blog! Or something else. The prize is negotiable. Heh heh.

Anyway. Let's review the rules.

1. Look at the banner at the top of my blog. You know, the one with all the eyes on it. Haha!

2. Send me an email at marioman60@gmail.com and write down the actor/actress and the film that the eyes are from. For animated films, just the name of the movie is fine.

3. Points are given for each correct part of the answer. So you get 1 point for the right actor, 1 point for the right movie.

4. Whoever gets the most points WINS!!!

All right so that's all there is to it. You've got two weeks to do it (the deadline for entries will be the 19th of January. GO!

Super Exciting Contest Results!

Ah, so life has caused me to be a bit delayed in posting these results, but nonetheless here they are! Though I was sure that this eye-dentification contest was much easier than the last one, there were still a couple of stumpers that I sort of expected.

First of all, nobody was able to identify these...

Which belong to Ryoko Hirosue from the tear-jerking "Departures". She does some nice things with her eyes in that movie!
Nobody identified this pair either...

Which belong to Jeneane Garofalo, in one of my favorite guilty-pleasure comedies "Mystery Men". It's been a while since I saw it, but as I remember Garofalo is wonderful and one of the best in the film.
And surprisingly, nobody was able to get this one...

Which is the eyes of Eugene Levy in "Waiting for Guffman". Since this is a comedic plot point, I'm disappointed that nobody was able to get it! Awww. Ya'll need to rewatch "Waiting for Guffman".

Here is a full list of the eyes, from left to right...

---Ellen Page (Juno), "Secret of Kells", Eugene Levy (Waiting for Guffman), Chloris Leachman (Last Picture Show), William H. Macy (Fargo)---

---Cate Blanchett (The Aviator), Jennifer Aniston (Office Space, a very underrated albeit tiny comic performance), Tippi Hedren (The Birds), Helen Mirren (Gosford Park), "Grave of the Fireflies"---

---Tilda Swinton (Julia), Kristen Stewart (Adventureland), Kevin Spacey (Usual Suspects), Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda)---

---Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Ryoko Hirosue (Departures), "Wall-E", Janeane Garofalo (Mystery Men), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air)---

And the winner is...

Joe Burns, from Oscarfan!!! Congratulations Joe! And thanks to Simon, who also entered. :)

So Joe, you're welcome to do a guest post, or if you have another prize in mind just let me know.

Thanks to everyone, and enjoy your day!

Contest Reminder...

All right you guys. I sort of forgot about this myself, but the Second Eye-Dentification Contes is currently taking place! And though the dead line is sort of gone, only ONE person has entered. That's really sad, considering how EASY it is this time around. And while that one person (wink) would probably love it if nobody else entered, I really can't declare a winner if there was no competition. So please everyone, GO FOR IT! :P

Oh, and can I say that I'm so happy that Scott Pilgrim is FINALLY out. I will be seeing that this weekend.

Eye-Dentification Contest Numero 2!

Hey, hey, hey my wonderful readers! In case you haven't noticed in the past 2 months or so, my banner has changed! And now that I have steady access to a computer and a bit of free time on my hand, it's time for...you guessed it...

HEWWM'S SECOND CONTEST! :D

(no I don't know who this kid is)

Anyway! Here are the rules.

  1. Look at the banner up at the top of this page...the one that has all those beautiful cinematic eyes.

  2. Try to identify as many of the actors and their respective movies as you can. For animated films, you only need to provide the name of the movie.

  3. Email me your identifications at marioman60@gmail.com. You get one point for correctly identifying the actor, and one point for correctly identifying the movie. Animated eye squares are only worth one point.

  4. The winner wins a guest post on this blog! Or some other to-be-determined prize of their choosing. Our last winner was the amazing Luke, who got almost all of them right. He hasn't taken advantage of his win yet (wink wink :P)...but since he won last time, he's not allowed to win this time! (You can still send me your guesses if you want, Luke. haha)
Anyway, there you have it! I think it's actually quite a bit easier than last time, so go at it everyone! You have two weeks. Starting...now...GO!

Contest Results!!!

Sorry everyone, I totally neglected to post this yesterday! Anyway, the results of the first annual HEWWM Banner Contest are in, and the winner is...

Luke, from Journalistic Skepticism! Congratulations, Luke! And the "prize" you get for winning this is still TBD so if you have any ideas please let me know. :P

There were two pairs of eyes up above that absolutely nobody identified.

There were these...
Which belong to the lovely Marpessa Dawn in the Brazilian film "Black Orpheus", which is one of my favorites.
It makes sense that nobody got it, because the picture wasn't even the really "famous" one from the movie and it's obscure. I probably wouldn't have gotten it myself.

Then there was this animated pair:
Which I'm disappointed nobody got! It's Ashitaka in "Princess Mononoke". Some of you came close but nobody quite nailed it.

Here's a full listing of the banner in case you're interested, from left to right:

Coraline, Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Janet Leigh (Psycho), Kate Winslet (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)

Jack Black (School of Rock), Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), Catherine O'Hara (Mighty Wind), Princess Mononoke
Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), Marpessa Dawn (Black Orpheus), Tom Hulce (Amadeus), The Pale Man (Pan's Labyrinth)

Daniel Day Lewis (There Will Be Blood), Persepolis, Amy Adams (Junebug), Audrey Hepburn (Charade), Meryl Streep (Devil Wears Prada)

***

Anyway, congratulations again to Luke, and thanks to all of you who participated!!!!

Contest-Game Thingy

Guess what readers...it's time for HEWWM's first CONTEST!!!
Well, it's sort of a contest. I'm not really sure what the prize is going to be at this point...perhaps a custom-made victory banner? Or the opportunity to guest post? Suggestions are welcome!

Anyway here's what you have to do:

1) Look at the banner at the top of my blog, the one with all the eyes on it.

2) Try to identify as many of the actors as you can, and, if you can, what movie they're being pictured from. (For animated films, simply the movie name will suffice.)

3) Submit your answers by emailing them to me at marioman60@gmail.com, and then comment on here telling me you emailed just so I make sure that I got everyone's submissions. Submit by no later than next Wednesday, April 13.

Then we find out who wins what! I'm scoring it by...points. Each square on the banner (besides the animated ones) are worth 2 points, one for the actor and one for the movie.

I'm thinking about doing this monthly or bi monthly or tri monthly or something, any time I change the banner, so I want lots of submissions.

GOOD LUCK!
